Armadillo & Company Interior Design Office
Course: Contract Design II
Media: Revit, 3DS Max
Project Outline: Using existing office building architecture, space plan a functional office space serving a fictional interior design firm with emphasis on emergency egress codes and path of travel. Select finishes that reflect a professional and personal style unique to the “principal designer”: Me.
Project Size: 7,000 sq ft
Both the mood board and materials collages directly influenced the final designs of this office. Mixed patterns and energetic colors are seen through the whole office design.
A project requirement was to base most of the design around office systems furniture, using minimal walls. As seen above, there are few fully walled-in spaces and a large bullpen style workspace.
The reception space welcomes the client in a way that reflects the colorful and fun design in the rest of the space; also communicating the design philosophy and services of the firm.
Space delineation in the bullpen is created through desk pods as well as acoustical ceiling features and color schemes.
By grouping like jobs staff can work closely with their teams and collaborate easily on projects. Hierarchy is also created in this space by placing project designers near windows with slightly larger desk spaces.
The galley style staff room is accessible from both sides of the space to invite staff to take their break or offer an environment other than their desk to work at.
The sample library shines in terms of the functionality. Features include: aisle shelving for organized storage, extra large cork boards and standing islands for spreading samples.
This principal designer office is designed as a larger space to establish hierarchy and to include the functionality of a glass wall with curtains. The acoustical ceiling features offer more privacy and the mix of color and pattern is just my personal taste!
The open front makes the senior designers easily accessible to the team but the cubicle walls and acoustic ceiling panels gives enough privacy for client and vendor calls.
